Abstract of the accomplished photographic work

The cycle of seasons is a temporal reference linked to climatic conditions, daylight hours, and temperature. It is a physical, astronomical phenomenon that influences personal sensitivity, society, and the economy. As a result, some tourist locations enter a seasonal pause, transforming into silent and suspended landscapes. Beaches, the sea, and houses remain, but under a different light, allowing residents to reclaim their spaces. Infiniti. Durante il silenzio is a photographic project that explores these places in their quiet period, focusing on the Palermo coastline of Partanna-Mondello. Through walking photography, the project reflects on how seasonal tourism shapes urban and social identity.
As an organic part of Palermo Periferie, curated by Sandro Scalia, this research examines the duality between the city lived by its residents and the one designed for tourists. It is not a completed investigation but an ongoing observation of urban transformation and its dynamics.

Description of the project you intend to pursue through the Prize

The project aims to investigate urban perimeters, which always reflect a broader vision of public space and an interpretation of a civic project, in cities that have undergone expansion or partial reconstruction following historical traumas of various kinds (wars, natural disasters, political decisions, responses to the housing crisis). Different cities from various European countries will be examined, each distinguished by its initial conditions and the unique approach to designing newly added or reshaped urban spaces. The study will document how these choices impact or may impact the identity of places and communities. This research will be based on firsthand experiences or planned stays in the selected locations, personal background, and collaborations with private and governmental entities. The aim is to promote the findings through exhibitions in the involved sites and the publication of a book (thread-sewn paperback) that includes photographic material, interviews, and travel note.
