Abstract of the accomplished photographic work
Waterfall establishes a connection between the artificial buildings and natural landscapes in a city by altering the orientation of its subject. The comparison of his multiple works gives a better understanding about the structure of buildings and traces human activities inside. The footprints of human activities are looming in the mansion as it is distorted by the artist into a waterfall-like structure, this has further loosened up the absolute boundary between the binary-division of man and nature, while underscoring the powerlessness of individuals against the vast social mechanisms at work in urban environments
Description of the project you intend to pursue through the Prize
Waterfall explores the relationship between urban architecture and natural landscapes by reimagining buildings as waterfall-like structures. The high-resolution images reveal interior glimpses of human activity through windows, while dissolving boundaries between artificial and natural environments.
Though each piece stands independently, together they form a study of building structures and human presence across different cities. The project documents urban landscapes undergoing significant development, illustrating the complexity of modern cityscapes.
With the Gabriele Basilico Prize, the series will expand into European cities, contrasting with existing work from Hong Kong and other Asian locations. The goal is to produce 50 high-resolution images for exhibition and publication.
