Abstract of the accomplished photographic work
Title:
The sea of silence
In 2025, the architecture of the fish market in Italy, from the moment of capture to retail sale,
appears extensive and jagged.
Despite the threats of global warming, microplastics and trawling, in Mare Nostrum ancient
traditions related to different types of fishing remain alive as historical relics.
The large fish trade, however, is built on international routes. Despite its 7,500 kilometers of
coastline, Italy must resort to the cold chain and import stocks of products from all over the
world to ensure a constant supply for national industry.
How to meet the demand of a growing market while respecting a fragile ecosystem?
Implementing production through the controversial use of intensive farming is not the only
answer.
Experimental research for the development of projects in marine genetics is looking to the
future.
What will they “think” of it down there?
Description of the project you intend to pursue through the Prize
With the work “Milano Cortina 2026” started in 2023 and which is still under development, I would like to be able to document and make visible the state of fact of an architectural project with a high risk of environmental impact and degradation. Trying to grasp the dramatic contradictions that are taking this reality in an increasingly problematic direction in view of the Winter Olympics games.
The work consists of two series of photographs; landscape and still-life made using a medium format digital camera (Fuji GFX 50s) and with the help of a professional drone.
The format of the photographs for the first part of the work will be panoramic in relation to the analog format: 6×12 cm, designed for single folding page type “leporello”
The second part of the work was designed with a 1:1 image ratio, square to be able to work in grid e.g. Test by contact, or with single image.
The structure of the work on site has been set up in a capillary way throughout the Olympic complex.
