Abstract of the accomplished photographic work
Time of Immaturity (2018-24)
Witold Gombrowicz, a Polish writer who was exiled to Argentina in 1939 for 24 years, questioned perception, chance and the interpretation of reality in his work. I pay tribute to him by following in his footsteps in Poland, Argentina and France, where he lived out his final years. Inspired by Cosmos (1967) which explores the way in which we project meaning onto an incoherent world, I looked for resonances between façades, plants, fragments of bodies and faces, blending individual history with History. Taking a phenomenological approach, I have composed a singular constellation of forms and signs. Produced between 2018 and 2024, this photographic series offers a sensitive and fragmentary reading of reality. It will be published by Lamaindonne in July 2025, with the support of the Michalski Foundation.
Description of the project you intend to pursue through the Prize
The High Solitudes (2022)
Brest, a windswept Cubist city, reveals itself as a fragile skin to be photographed*. During my residency at the Musée de Bretagne in 2022, I explored its geological, historical and lived layers. Inspired by Gabriele Basilico and the Datar Mission (1984), I captured the porosity between flesh and stone, presence and trace. Blockhaus and brutalist churches resonate with human and animal bodies, becoming reliefs and landscapes. Traces on the wall of a past German hospital echo human scars. Les Hautes Solitudes brings together some forty photographs, in silver and digital.
I will continue this exploration by incorporating the countryside, its relief and monoliths. The book, comprising 80 images, will move from countryside to city to abstraction, punctuated by poems. The exhibition will explore the resonance of forms.
