Abstract of the accomplished photographic work
“Work naming has yet to succeed” (2020-)
The slogans and words plastered all over Hong Kong a year ago are now painted or erased, but even disappeared, for some reason the words began to appear vaguely and faintly.
After the huge social movement in 2019, the freedom of speech that Hong Kong had in the past disappeared.
Visually, it has disappeared and “gone”, but in the artist’s eyes it is not disappearing, it is just temporarily and subtly hidden.
From 2020 to 2024 .By capturing the hidden words in the urban landscape, the artist tries to express that Hong Kong’s democracy and freedom are severely suppressed, and the citizens and themselves still strive to uphold the hope of freedom.
Description of the project you intend to pursue through the Prize
Hong Kong is a rapidly changing metropolis. In just five years, not only can people and events change, but the urban landscape can also undergo significant transformation.
Through this project, I hope to revisit the places captured in my previous work. I aim to investigate the changes in these locations over the years, examining whether there are still traces and evidence of social movements left behind, as well as observing the overall changes in the cityscape.
Ultimately, the photographer is an artist who preserves the spirit of humanity through the lens, documenting the history of our city that is on the verge of disappearing. By publishing a photography book, I can share a part of the history of the place where I live with the world.
